RESPIRATORY UPDATE IN NICU – BASIC
Introduction
Despite the technological advances in the mechanical ventilation in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), the lungs of preterm infants are susceptible particularly to ventilator-induced lung injury. The goals of ideal mechanical ventilation are to achieve and to maintain adequate pulmonary gas exchange, minimize the risk of lung injury, reduce respiratory workload, and provide patient comfort. Lung-protective ventilation in newborn infants has been a recent trend as a primary mode of ventilation support for the early management of respiratory distress. This Webinar session will review lung-protective ventilation methods in NICU and the most effective altered method to reduce the risk of chronic lung disease with non invasive ventilation (NIV).
