RESPIRATORY UPDATE IN NICU – BASIC [NICU-RESPIBSC231020]

Despite the technological advances in the mechanical ventilation in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), the lungs of preterm infants are still susceptible particularly to ventilator-induced lung injury. The goals of ideal mechanical ventilation are to achieve and to maintain adequate pulmonary gas exchange, to minimize the risk of lung injury, to reduce respiratory workload, and to provide patient comfort. Lung-protective ventilation in the newborn infants has been a recent trend as a primary mode of ventilation support for early management of respiratory distress syndrome.
